Text Box: Student Spotlight: Leo. W. Brown

Leo W. Barron is taking advantage of hybrid classes in Drafting Technology. Leo says: “I enjoy the hybrid classes for Drafting Technology. It allows me to spend as much time in the drafting lab as I see fit, as well as having the ability to download assignments from ANGEL and work from home. I have chosen the architectural drafting specialization because of the high level of creativeness involved. After graduation, I plan on working for an architectural/drafting/design company specializing in green/eco designing and also continuing my education in order to become a licensed architect.”

The Drafting Technology Program uses the ANGEL Learning Management System through GVTC to provide students online access to assignments, worksheets, drawing files, and quizzes. In addition, supplementary resources and software are available in the hybrid classes to enhance and enrich the learning experience. All drafting classes are offered as hybrid to provide flexible scheduling for students balancing work, personal, and academic responsibilities.

The Drafting Technology Associate and Diploma program is a basic form of technical communications in manufacturing, architecture, and construction. Drafters are involved in the drawing of working drawings for literally everything that is manufactured, built, prototyped, or used as mechanical parts, buildings, cars, schematic layouts for electrical, plumbing, heating and air. Drafters are detail oriented and typically work for architects, engineers, and designers. They operate the latest CAD software programs such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Architecture, and Revit. Drafters know basic drafting principles such as orthographic projections, dimensioning standards, auxiliary views, sections, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, precision measuring, use of scales, 3-D, and preparing full sets of working drawings. All drafting students, selecting either associate or diploma programs, will complete general and drafting core courses and select a specialization-architectural drafting or mechanical drafting.
