Thank you for the positive responses we have been receiving about Velocity, GVTC’s online newsletter. Many of you say your favorite feature is the Student Success Story, but you should know that it is especially difficult for us to choose just one student to feature in each issue because there are so many outstanding online students from which to select. Learning more about our programs offerings has also been of special interest to many. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions.Mike Berry is the focus of our Student Success Story in this issue. Following a stint in the Marines, Berry decided on a career in Fire Science and was looking for a way to be able to work fulltime and still have time to pursue an Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology. Combining online and on campus courses, available from West Georgia Technical College, allows him to do just that.
The Criminal Justice Technology program from Lanier Technical College is now available completely online, offering an Associates of Applied Technology, a Diploma, or Technical Certificate of Credit. Online CJ instruction is particularly suited to those in law enforcement due to their ever-changing work schedules, and people from all areas of the State are enrolled in these classes.
We are extremely please to be able to share the news that GVTC has partnered with SMARTHINKING to offer students at our technical colleges (both online and on campus) access to around-the-clock tutoring and academic assistance, including review of writing assignments.
This Issue also contains information about the GVTC Summit 2001 scheduled for October 17-19 at the Dubose Porter Regional Business & Industry Training Center located on the campus of Heart of Georgia Technical College in Dublin. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register immediately.
