Focus: Good Things Come In Pairs

the e-newsletter for online technical education

Debbie Dlugolenski, President

There is an old saying that good things come in pairs. That is especially true of this Issue of Velocity.  We have articles about two sisters from South Africa, a faculty exchange program between two instructors in two countries, and an online student who had twins!

Our first article is a Student Success Story about two sisters from South Africa who came to the Atlanta area as part of an au pair program.  While searching for programs to further their education that would fit into their work schedules, they discovered GVTC and the online program offerings at West Central Technical College.  Using the Internet, they have continued to work on their technical certificate after returning to their home in South Africa.

Our next article is about the Fulbright Scholar Faculty Exchange Program in which an Atlanta Tech instructor traded jobs, homes, automobiles and friends for six months with an instructor from Germany and their subsequent discovery to the infinite possibilities of online teaching.

Elicia Williams, a Medical Assisting Program student from Ogeechee Tech, continued her studies online while waiting for the arrival of her twin daughters.

We are pleased to feature Mrs. Valerie Bentley our Student Services Specialist in our GVTC Staff Showcase.  Also included in this issue are enrollment figures for Winter Quarter.

We hope that you enjoy reading this issue.

Fulbright Scholar Instructor Exchange Program

Views From Both Sides Of The Atlantic

David Kirsch of Atlanta Technical College and Norbert Fuhrmann of Felix-Fechenbach-Berufskolleg in Germany are the first vocational technical instructors to participate in the Fulbright Scholar Instructor Exchange Program.  They traded jobs, homes, automobiles and friends for six months.  We thought you would enjoy reading about their experiences in their own words, which follow.
