Whether your interest is in criminal law, private investigation or Homeland Security, law enforcement personnel are in high demand. If you are thinking about pursuing a career in law enforcement or are currently employed in that field and wish to advance, the Criminal Justice Technology Associate in Applied Technology Degree would be worth your consideration. This program provides a curriculum that includes education in historical and contemporary criminal justice systems (policing, courts, and corrections), constitutional and criminal law, criminal procedures, and juvenile justice. Discover more about the Criminal Justice program by reading what Lisa Lee, criminal justice student at Lanier Technical College, has to say about the program and the instructor. Lisa will realize her childhood dream this June when she graduates with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice Technology.
The GVTC coordinators in the technical colleges support online students and faculty, as well as the GVTC staff, and in recognition of their efforts in supporting the online initiative, we will spotlight one coordinator each quarter beginning with this issue. Our first spotlighted coordinator is Angelia Olson of Lanier Technical College. Discover why she is such a busy lady both personally and professionally.
We hope you enjoy reading this issue.

Student Will Realize Childhood Dream in June
Lisa Lee
Criminal Justice Technology Student
Lisa Lee, student of the Criminal Justice Technology Associate Degree program at Lanier Technical College, says she has been interested in criminal justice since she was a child. She began the program in June of 2001, after being introduced to the program by Russ Pomrenke, a criminal justice instructor at Lanier Tech. Lisa says she enjoyed all of the criminal justice classes, especially the constitutional law and psychology classes. “The courses are challenging, but not so difficult that you give up, and the online classes offer flexibility for people who are busy with careers.” Lisa says Russ Pomrenke has been a great inspiration to her, and anytime she needed help Russ was always there. “With the variety of classes offered through this program, there are many options available with regard to this career path such as law enforcement, probation, juvenile help, counseling or legal aid. The possibilities are endless.” Lisa admits it does require more determination and focus than a regular class but says it’s well worth it. Lisa finished the course in approximately 30 months while attending classes both full-time and some part-time.
