Program Spotlight
Small Business Management, TCC
Starting a small business can be exciting. However, you must be prepared and you must understand the basics of owning your own business. West Central Technical College offers the Small Business Management (SBM) certificate entirely online through GVTC's Blackboard network. This Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) provides students with real world knowledge of how to acquire, maintain, and grow a small business. To graduate from this program, students take all six classes (32 credit hours) online: Introduction to Marketing, Business Law, Fundamentals of Selling, Advertising, Entrepreneurship, and Small Business Management. These six classes emphasize essential skills that a small business owner or manager needs such as marketing, management, organizational, and financial skills. The SBM certificate is not just for new or budding entrepreneurs to gain the skills required to own or operate a small business; the Small Business Management certificate is also a way for current small business owners to stay current in today's changing world, which can mean the difference between success and failure. In addition, this program also offers an excellent first step to completing the Marketing Management diploma or degree. Employment Opportunities Upon completing the SBM certificate, a WCTC student could successfully own or operate a small retail or service business. Career Outlook The growth of service businesses within the past 20 years has contributed greatly to the U.S economy. Thus, the SBM certificate is an attractive educational opportunity for a technical college student, new business owner, or seasoned professional wishing to update his or her skills.
