As an initiative of the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education, the Georgia Virtual Technical College went online in the fall of 1998 to provide access to high quality technical programs and services over the Internet. At that time, no one anticipated the tremendous demand for such an initiative. 

As more citizens became computer literate and gained access to computers, it became apparent  that educators needed to find ways to incorporate technology and innovative delivery methods to provide high quality educational opportunities online.

Over 40,000 students have already taken courses through GVTC.  With over 750 courses to choose from and twenty-four hour a day access, GVTC has opened a world of opportunities and rewards for students seeking an alternative to the traditional classroom experience.
